Lithuania Adoption
Lithuania offers an opportunity to adopt school age Caucasian children and sibling groups through a very well organized adoption process. Adoptions of younger children are also possible. Lithuania allows each agency to submit two families each year to adopt children three to five years of age. For these young children, the waiting list is about two years. Families of Lithuanian decent will have approximately half the waiting time as other American adoptive families. For older children, the waiting time is much shorter. There is little waiting for school age children over age six or sibling groups of various ages.
Children are often from small town orphanages where they have been nurtured by directors and staff. The Lithuanian orphanages offer among the best care for their children that we have found anywhere in the former Soviet Union, and many of the older children are surprisingly well adjusted.
