The El Salvador Adoption Process
El Salvador is the Central American country that is just south of Guatemala. It is a beautiful country with a rich heritage. The government has formally granted permission for certain attorneys to handle adoptions outside the realm of the government orphanages by working directly with local birthmothers. We are now matching families, and bringing infants and toddlers home home through this private adoption process. There are also toddlers and older children available for adoption at times.
Once your adoption documents (dossier) are sent to El Salvador, they are translated and sent to an adoption board for review. This approval process generally takes 5 - 7 months.
Once your dossier is approved and a child matching your criteria is available, a referral is offered to you. Then the actual adoption begins in El Salvador. The adoption itself generally takes 6 - 8 months.
So the entire adoption process takes 11 to 15 months once all your documents are submitted. When you travel to El Salvador, you will need to stay for 14 - 21 days to finish the immigration paper work. Or you can choose to make two very short trips with approximately two weeks in between them.

The children that are available for adoption are placed in foster care with families that are hand picked by our attorney and are given excellent care as well as good medical attention during the adoption process.
Although an adoption from El Salvador takes a bit longer, and it takes a bit more travel time, El Salvador is significantly less expensive than many countries and can be a very good option for many families!
