Travel Information
After the court approves your adoption, you will be advised to travel to Guatemala City. There you will receive your child. The final paperwork for your child's immigrant visa is handled by you (with our facilitator's assistance) at the US Embassy in Guatemala.Then you will return home with your child.
Adoption Escort Service
Some families find they cannot travel to complete the adoption. An Open Door has made arrangements for an Adoption Escort Service to handle the in-country travel for the adoptive family. The child will be brought to the airport nearest your home. This costs very little (if any) more than if 2 people (adoptive mother and father) had traveled. Please request more information if you are interested in this option.
