Application
The process begins with an application
to An Open Door Adoption Agency. Our

Select a state licensed home study agency
Select a state licensed home study agency to begin your international home
study. A home study typically entails three to four visits in your home by a
social worker to recommend you as an adoptive family. An Open Door can

Apply to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services
Apply to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services for approval as international adoptive parents. Download forms from their web site at www.BCIS.gov or call the BCIS forms line at 800-870-3676 for I600A and I864 application forms. Complete a Service Agreement with An Open Door
Complete a Service Agreement with An Open Door to guide you through the adoption process. The Service Agreement is simply an outline of what the Agency does and what you will do to complete your adoption.
Begin preparation of your dossier
A dossier is simply all of the documents necessary to complete your
international adoption. Dossiers are unique to each country.
Selection of your child
The process of selection of a child also varies by country. In most countries the selection process begins by preparing a dossier which is then sent to the country you choose. The country then refers a child to you. You may accept the child, or decline and request another referral. An Open Door will work with you to find the right child for your family.
Itinerary
The in-country procedures are similar, regardless of the country or region
from which you adopt. You will be met at the airport and accompanied through
each step of the adoption process by an experienced, bi-lingual facilitator.
Travel
Travel arrangements vary by country. In each country the agency has experienced, bilingual representatives to meet you and accompany you through your adoption process. Accommodations and ground transportation will be arranged for your convenience. Comfortable accommodations are available in each country.
