Ukraine Adoption Process:

The adoption process in the Ukraine is unique from that of any other Eastern European country. Most other Eastern European countries send pictures and medicals of children to families in America as a “referral”. Ukraine, however, invites adoptive families to Ukraine to visit orphanages and select an orphan child, then complete the adoption while you are there. Families must first submit their adoption documents (dossier) to Ukraine. Then in approximately one to three months, you will receive an invitation to travel to Ukraine to find your child. You will be accompanied to each city by a bi-lingual translator, and our facilitator in Kiev will coordinate your entire adoption process in Ukraine. The good news is that the adoption process should only a few months from the submission of your dossier.

The capital city of Kiev itself is a very attractive and thoroughly European city set high on the banks of the Dnepr River. While in Kiev, your family is housed in one of the modern and comfortable hotels. Here the family will visit with the State Department for Adoption and Protection of Rights of the Child (SDAPRC). Once you have selected one of the children offered, you will be given permission to travel to the region of the orphanage.

Once in the region, you will be met by local facilitators who have prearranged your housing. You will be taken to visit the orphanage, where you can visit the child you have selected. If the child you first select is not the right child for your family, you may return to Kiev to select another child. You may return as often as necessary to find the right child.

Once you select your child, and the documents are prepared, you will be accompanied to the local court, where the adoption will be granted. You will then return to Kiev to present your documents to the SDAPRC, where they graciously greet you and your new child. Finally, you will be accompanied to the U.S. Embassy in Kiev to obtain the child’s immigrate visa. Plan for a trip of approximately four to five weeks, after which you will return home with your child.

Ukraine Adoptive Parent Criteria

Must be 25 to 45 years of age to adopt child under 2 years
No more that 45 year age difference between adoptive parent and child
Couples must be married 2 1/2 years
Single women may adopt
Previous divorce is acceptable
You may select the age and gender of the child.
You may have other children
