Dear Expectant Parent,
HELLO. Whoever you are and whatever your story, first and foremost we want you to know how much we admire you. Choosing to place a child for adoption is filled with courage and sacrificial love. We are incredibly thankful and humbled that you would consider us to parent your child.
We think it would be helpful for you to know that adoption has always been a part of our family dream. We pictured having biological children before adopting, what we didn’t know was that the Lord was going to take us through a season of infertility and waiting to grow our family. In fact, we acknowledge that God’s story for us was not the story we would have written for ourselves. But now we wouldn’t change it for anything. Five years ago, we adopted our daughter Eden. She’s full of love for life! One of our greatest joys has been seeing her personality, talents, and interests develop and getting to celebrate and encourage every aspect of who God has created her to be. We’re certainly not perfect parents, as life is messy, full of beauty and brokenness for all of us. But with the help of the Lord, we seek to become better every day. We continue to learn the complexities of adoption, and we embrace that transracial adoption has additional layers. We strive to do our best to raise children who not only hear and understand their adoption story, but also connect to and take pride in their ethnicity and culture.
We believe that Jesus offers an identity that only he can provide. It is this identity that we hope to instill in our children. We often tell our daughter that there is nothing she can do that will make God (or us) love her any less, or any more, than she is right now. She is perfectly loved! That same promise extends to you. So whether you choose us or not, know that we are still thankful for you, and praying for you! But if you do choose us, we want you to know that we will do our best to love your child unconditionally, the way we believe that God loves each of us.
We hope that through these words and pictures, you get a glimpse into the type of parents and family we aspire to be, as well as our deep love for God and others. Please know that along with many friends and family, we are praying for you! Our prayer is that you would seek the Lord and rest in his love for all of us, especially for you and your child. Whatever you discern is best for you and your baby, we trust that God is faithful and that He is with you. Should you so choose, we would be honored to walk this next journey with you.
